Cranbrook Church of England Primary School NEWSLETTER December 2009The season of Christmas is upon us once again and may I take the opportunity on behalf of the staff and children to wish you all a very ‘Happy Christmas.’ Do not forget our Key Stage 1 production, which will be performed on Tuesday 8th December at 2.00 pm and again on Wednesday 9th December at 6.00 pm. The children have been working very hard and look forward to the opportunity to perform for their parents and family. Tickets are available via your child’s teacher. The children’s Christmas lunch will be on Thursday 17th December. This festive event is always thoroughly enjoyed by the children. Our end of term service will be at St. Dunstan’s Church on Friday 18th December at 2.00pm. You are very warmly invited to join us for this last assembly of term when we shall be celebrating Christmas. Key Stage 2 will be enjoying their Christmas party on Tuesday 15th December in the afternoon and Key Stage 1’s party is on Wednesday 16th December also in the afternoon. A detailed letter will be sent separately via the class teacher. The last few weeks of the Christmas term can be very special for children and staff, but they are also a time when teachers are working very hard, so on your behalf I would like to thank the teachers for all their hard work for your children. Courier Newspaper – vote for your school! If you haven’t already voted please do so, this would really help our school with funding towards new playground equipment. Your coupon should be clearly marked with the code M4 and returned to school by your child and put into the designated collection point in their classroom. There will also be a collection point at Phillips Man’s shop in the high street. Closing date 21st December 2009. Thank you again for your support. Winter Weather Winter has now arrived and we are beginning to experience some colder days. We have noticed that some children are coming to school without a coat or suitable clothing for outdoors. Please ensure your child has warm clothing for going outside at play times. School Registration A small number of children are not being collected promptly at the end of the day. We do not have the facility to look after them, but we do have an After School Club you can use if you need after school care. It is very important, in the interest of safety, that you collect your children promptly at the end of the school day, or make alternative arrangements. Senior Citizens Raffle Please can we ask for your help with raffle prize donations for the senior citizen’s party on the 10th December. Again, as always, we are very grateful for your continued support. Walk on Wednesday The children have continued to support WOW despite the heavy rainfall this term. Car congestion near the school continues to be a problem. Walking the last 10 minutes to school would really relieve a lot of the problems with parking. The Co-op car park is an ideal place to park if you are able to allow an extra 10 minutes to walk to the school. Not only will it solve the safety issues for pedestrians near the school but it will provide good exercise too. Thank you for supporting WOW which is now in its third this term. Opportunities for Guitar Lesson and a Performing Arts Course Key Stage 2 pupils should have received a letter inviting them to apply for guitar lessons and a crafts, drama and music workshop which will start in January 2010. If you need more information about these courses, please contact the school office. Pupils need to apply before the end of this term. Free Adult Education Courses on Helping Your Child with Numeracy and Literacy Parents are invited to apply for a free 5 week course which will be aimed at helping your child with key skills. We have run these courses before and the parents who attended found them great fun and extremely helpful. We need at least 8 parents to sign up for the course which will take place on a weekday morning in the Out of School Club. If you have not done so already, please apply as soon as possible or ask for more information at the school. Minutes of Parents Forum on Friday, 13th November 2009 1. The Restorative Approach We were pleased to welcome 19 parents to the meeting who came to hear Mr Wibroe explain the school’s commitment to the ‘Restorative Approach’ method of managing children’s behaviour. A short DVD was shown which illustrated how a primary school in Action: Mr Wibroe arranged a presentation of the Restorative Approach on Monday, 27th November. Approximately 15 parents attended this presentation. 2. Parent Class Representatives Some of the Parent Reps were present at the meeting. The main aim is to spread the word about any school event or to raise issues with the teacher or Head Teacher if they arise. Pullman Class Reps and Carle Class Reps reported positively about their role. Action: Caroline Stern, as Parent Rep Co-ordinator, is to organise a Key Stage 1 Class Rep meeting.
3. Head Lice Some parents raised the issue that some children are still not being treated for having head lice and suggested that parents are given the opportunity to learn how to deal with the problem. Action: The school nurse will be approached to see if an information session can be arranged about the problem of head lice.
4. Suggestions for future discussions: health and personal hygiene, road safety, how the school can celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2010 which will also be The Year of Reading.
