Cranbrook Church of England Primary School NEWSLETTER May 2009-page 2

Staffing Update

As you know, Miss Button is commencing her maternity leave with effect from the half term holiday.  Her class will be covered by Mrs Dyass during June and then by Miss Farris from early in July until the end of term 6.  Miss Farris recently completed a very successful teaching practice with us and is about to graduate with qualified teacher status from Canterbury Christ Church University.  She will be taking up one of the maternity cover contracts at this school from September onwards.  Miss Farris has taught Miss Button's class before and knows the children well.  Mrs Dyass is an experienced supply teacher who regularly works for the school.  Mrs Broadie will be commencing her maternity leave later in June, and we will inform you about her replacement for the rest of the summer term in due course.  Mrs Woods is going on maternity leave with effect from the beginning of the summer holiday.

In the autumn we shall be in the fortunate position of being able to retain Mrs White, who will cover one of the maternity contracts, and will continue to teach the Reception Class, and Miss Farris will cover the other.

We wish Miss Button, Mrs Broadie and Mrs Woods well in the forthcoming delivery of new members of their families.

Swimming Lessons

We realise that many of you will be disappointed that your child is not going swimming this term.  We are in the process of negotiating with the swimming pool, so that we can return to swimming for all next year.  If we are unsuccessful in achieving this, we will maintain at least the current level of swimming, so that all pupils will have a good opportunity to learn to swim during the course of their time at this school.  Those of you whose children are going swimming, please support the activity by ensuring that you make your contributions to the cost promptly.

Cycling Proficiency – Year 6 only

To date only a handful of year 6 children have signed up for this cycling course.  If we do not get a better response this may not take place which will be very disappointing for those children wishing to participate.
