May 2010
Swimming Lessons
Swimming lessons will be commencing on Thursday 10th June for year groups
1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. A separate letter will be sent out shortly when we receive final
costing from The Weald Sports Centre.
Update from the PTFA
The next event on the PTA calendar is the quiz night which is on Friday the
14th May from 7.30pm.Tickets are £8.00 per person and teams can be a
maximum of 8 people. Ticket price includes a ploughman’s supper; please
bring along your own drinks and nibbles. We would be really grateful if you could
donate a pudding on the night.
Following this we are looking to put up a pitch at the Cranbrook Fun day on
June the 6th. Further information on what we will be selling is still to come as we
are being directed by the event organisers. Volunteers are needed to help setup
the pitch and to assist in the manning of the area for the afternoon. We are
looking to fill the time in hourly slots so if you can help then please let me
know, mobile number is 07894041662, or leave a message for me in the school
office. The hours to be covered are 12.00 till 5pm. We are hoping to be selling
drinks and cakes, strawberries and cream that sort of thing, so may need
donations but until we hear back nothing has been agreed. Please watch
for more information as it becomes available and a further plea for help.
OAP Lunches, volunteers are required to help serve the OAP lunches on a
Wednesday. The times are 12.45 till 2.15pm. If you can help please contact
me on my mobile or the school office. The more helpers we get the bigger the
rotation time, so if you can spare an hour once every few weeks, everyone
involved would be very grateful.
Thanks Lesley
Shopping Vouchers
Thanks to everyone who has brought in Tesco, Sainsbury and Flora vouchers
over the past few weeks. The Flora campaign has now ended and we have an
excellent £50 in the pot to spend on cooking equipment. Tesco’s last
vouchers will be issued on 9th May with Sainsbury’s on 8th June. We have done
really well again this year, it’s amazing to see how much we spend on food and
drink, and will be able to buy many ‘extras’ to make the children’s learning even
more fun!
School magazine – Primary Eye
We are thinking about the next issue of Primary Eye and would like to invite
you to let us know of any special achievements/activities etc. that your children
have taken part in that deserve a special mention. Please see Judy Skellern by
the end of May if you would like to be included in the July issue.
Sale for Malawi
We will be holding a sale to raise money for Kambwiri, our link school in
Malawi, after school on Friday 21st May and will be pleased to receive donations
of items to sell on the day (toys, children’s books etc.). Thanks to everyone
who has supported us so far and we look forward to seeing you then!
Walk on Wednesday
We have a new winner for the WOW trophy. King-Smith Class have won the
trophy for Terms 3 and 4). Many thanks to all those children who have been
joining in with Walk on Wednesday. Please remember it is never too late to
join in. Help your class win the WOW trophy for the summer term.
Supporting your Child with Literacy
We will be running a FREE Adult Education class on Supporting your Child
with Literacy for 4 weeks after half term, starting on Wednesdays from 9th June
up to 30th June from 9.15am to 11.45am in the Out of School building. If you are
interested in this class please contact Judy Skellern, Parent Support
Adviser, on her mobile: 07825 506552 or leave a message at the office. The
course aims to show you how your child learns reading and writing skills. Kate
Crook, the tutor, will give you ideas on how to support your child's learning.
Come and join a friendly group of parents and have fun learning.
Parent Zone
Parents Forum is being re-launched as 'Parents Zone'. The next meeting will be
on Friday, 14th May from 9.30am to 10.30am in the Out of School Building. All
parents and carers are invited to come along and find out about this month's
topic: 'How Teachers Monitor Children's Progress'. Mr Wibroe will give a short
talk on this subject and will be available to answer any questions you may
have. It is always good to welcome new faces at these meetings as well as
welcome back the old ones. Refreshments and biscuits are served from
9am so that parents can just come along and have a chat before the meeting
starts.
