Parents are very welcome to attend the medal ceremony, which will be held on the field and will start at 3.05 pm. Pullman visit to Sissinghurst Castle On Thursday 17 June Pullman will be visiting Sissinghurst Castle for the day. We had a very successful day planting our seedlings and undertaking various other activities when Morpurgo and Rowling visited shortly after Easter. We hope that Pullman will have an equally rewarding day, during the course of which they will maintain our plot and perhaps begin to harvest some of the growing vegetables. Please remember that Pullman will be meeting at Sissinghurst at 9.00am, not at school on that day. Children who attend the breakfast club will be taken in the school mini-bus. Children will need suitable, waterproof footwear as they will be walking on the estate. Wellies are probably best. Waterproof coats/ sunhats etc depending on what the weather is doing as we will be outside all day. Children should be collected from Sissinghurst Castle at 3.00pm. Another group of children will be visiting Sissinghurst on 1 July to harvest our vegetables and they will bring them back to school, so that we can sell them after school on 2 July in the playground. Please bring some money with you on that day, so that you can buy fresh vegetables grown by the children at very competitive prices. Pullman class French day On Monday 21 June Pullman will be taking part in a variety of French activities in preparation for KS3 French. They will take part in a French workshop during the morning and at lunchtime they will visit Cranbrook School to watch a theatrical performance in French. Feedback from Parent Zone We welcomed 14 parents to our last Parent Zone meeting when Mr Wibroe gave a talk on how teachers assess children’s progress through their time at primary school. We heard how the teachers meet with Mr Wibroe each term to track each pupil's progress to determine whether they are reaching their expected targets. We heard about the different National Curriculum levels and were shown examples of children's work to illustrate the different levels of achievement. We all realised what a huge amount of time is given to making sure children reach their full potential. Healthy Lunchbox Information Making packed lunches can be a monotonous job. However, help is at hand! If you are looking for inspiration and some new ideas on healthy and easy to prepare lunches, please come along to our Healthy Lunchbox workshop on Monday 21st June 3.30pm to 4.30pm in the School Hall. There is a great deal of evidence to show how healthy diets can improve behaviour, concentration and general health in children. Healthy options need not be expensive - we can show you how! Please come along to our fun workshop. A crèche will be provided in the Sunshine Room. Shoes Please ensure that your child wears appropriate black school shoes to school each day. We have recently had a number of children wearingtrainers and a variety of unsuitable boots. These are not part of the school uniform. Please make sure that your child arrives at school appropriately dressed in school uniform and equipped for the day. Supervising your children
Please ensure that your children are adequately supervised at the beginning and end ofthe school day. Small children playing in the area of the steps up onto the field can be dangerous, particularly if they are not supervised.
Inhalers
Does your child need an inhaler? Some parents have expressed that their childsometimes needs an inhaler. Please make sure that your child has an up to date inhaler in school if they need one and that it is clearly marked with your child’s name.
Cranbrook Fun Day Many thanks for your continued support and a huge thank you to all those who managed to attend the Cranbrook Fun Day. The PTFA did a tremendous job in helping to organise this event, their model fruit was absolutely brilliant! – a huge thank you for all your hard work PTFA. We understand the day was a great success and the Choir and Drummers were again fantastic and enjoyed by all - well done to them. Your Choice funding The school has been allocated a 'Your Choice Fund' to be used from now until 31st March 2011 to provide help with children's out of school activities and interests. The criteria for applying for a grant from this fund is that the child attends this school, the family is on a low income, in receipt of benefits or free school meals or that there is family crisis preventing the child from being able to partake in the particular activity. The funding may be used for swimming lessons, music lessons, uniform or subscriptions for brownies or cubs, sports activities, or any other interest or activity a child wishes to pursue. However, the activity must take place outside of school hours. If you wish to apply for Your Choice Funding or would like more information about it, please contact Judy Skellern, Parent Support Adviser via the school office or on her mobile: 07825 506552. Each enquiry will be treated confidentially. Free School Meals You may be entitled to free school meals, if so you should be taking full advantage of this benefit. Criteria for free school meals are if you are claiming income support and/or child tax credit (not Working Tax Credit) and an annual income below £16,040. If you need any further assistance please ask at the school office. Playground upgrade We are about to have some new pieces of play equipment installed in both the infant and the junior playground. We are also going to have some new markings painted on the surfaces. This has been long awaited and we are grateful to the extra funding that has supplemented the school’s own budget to help make this possible. Contributors includethe Friends of Cranbrook CE Primary School, the Courier Newspaper and the Mercers’ Company. We are extremely grateful to all these organizations for their contributions towards what is going to be quite a costly project, but one that will greatly enhance the children’s lunchtime and playtime opportunities.
